Here a little bit of Jennifer's own story on how she got into dance and photography (2 of my favorite loves too):

"When I was very young, my mother would put on her ball gown and go to a ballroom dance at the Savoy with her girlfriends. I grew up listening to the ballroom and swing music of the 40's and 50's, and I wanted to dance like her. She would waltz me around the room, and I would keep time to the music. 
    In high school I took a ballroom dancing gym class and loved it!  However, my dancing consisted of going to clubs and doing the latest dance craze.  Later when I became a teacher in the Bronx, my days involved standing on my feet and taking care of my two daughters when I came home. It wasn't until the early '90s when I found a dance partner that I started going to clubs on the weekends.  But this also was mostly free-style and popular dancing.  I took the occasional dance class (lindy hop, salsa, and ballroom) through various continuing education programs. 
    I retired from teaching in 2004 and last year, through a friend, I discovered Eric's West Coast Swing, hustle and salsa classes.  At first it was difficult, and I didn't like it very much. I was accustomed to "doing my own thing" on the dance floor. But I have grown to love it.  I love the personal contact that you have with partner dancing, and WCS can be done to many different types of music, from contemporary jazz to popular tunes. Now I am pursuing WCS, along with lindy and salsa. 
      In 2002 I won honorable mention at Norwalk Community College in a contest to depict "A Day in the Life at NCC" and in 2005 one of my photos appeared in a juried show in Rowayton. At the present time, a photo I took while traveling in Spain is on exhibit in a photo show at the Carriage Barn in New Canann until March 4. I am also the photographer for the Fair West Swing group where, in between dancing, I take photos for posting on their Meetup site.
    Being able to enjoy my three passions, travel, dancing, and photography, is so much more fun that teaching and now my life is stress free and happy.  Isn't that what retirement is all about?"
