Honoring Scott Ruggio
on Monday's WCS Night |
One
of our own dancers is heading to the
Marines. I met Scott Ruggio in
December 2006 and it has been a
great pleasure to know him.
You are all invited to
come share Scott's Honorary Evening
on Monday, March 26 at the
Black Bear Saloon in South Norwalk,
CT.
Here's a little more about Scott and
his story:
Scott Ruggio
was born in 1980 and lived in
Shelton, CT for the first 18 years
of his life. He intended to join
the military immediately after high
school but did not, because in
Scott's words, "At that time of my
life I was influenced to do what
others wanted."
He moved to
Springfield, MA where he attended
Western New England College. Scott
ultimately decided this school was
not where he needed to be right
then. He instead attended a
technical college where he earned a
degree in Diesel Technology and
excelled as a diesel mechanic for
five years while working at the same
time in the restaurant business.
Throughout
Scott's life, he had a passion for
martial arts, which he feels taught
him many spiritual and life lessons.
He also had aspirations to reach a
high level of competition in the
martial arts, though a slipped disk
in his neck put a block in his path.
Scott says
that for most of his life, he was
caught up with people from "the
wrong environment". His
frustration with not being able to
compete in Jujitsu because of his
neck injury and the negative
influences that were surrounding him
made him realize that he needed to
change paths. This new path led him
to ballroom dancing.
When Scott
started dancing, he utilized all the
ambition, drive, never-quit attitude
and passion to boost his level of
achievement. He excelled quickly.
He says that he has met many
wonderful people and that dancing
put him in an environment which has
been essential to developing his
inner self. Dancing, Scott says,
has become a great part of his life.
During the
last three years, Scott has become
interested in psychology. He
realized that if he instilled all
the great qualities of
responsibility, trust, strength,
finding the truth in all things,
self-reliance and the ability to
"control the inner animal that
caused me so many problems", it
could be the secret to his own
extreme happiness and dream
fulfillment. He could make anything
in his life happen.
He feels that
the most important lesson he has
learned has been, "if you have it on
the inside, then the outside takes
care of itself." So with good
resolve, sound reason and a healthy
body, Scott feels that now it is
finally the right time for him to
join the Marine Corps.

On
March 23, the New York Times
published an article about beginning
ballet classes for adults.
One of the featured instructors
is Kat Wildish, the teacher with
whom I study at the Alvin Ailey
American Dance Theater in New York.
Stay tuned for intro to ballet
classes with Erik and Anna...coming
soon.
"....For
a few moments I found myself
actually balanced on the toes of one
foot, the other leg angled toward my
knee. It was a nanosecond glimpse
into the satisfactions of ballet,
where real dancers master an almost
unimaginable gallery of skills:
balance, strength, precision,
grace...."
"....About 35 students were present,
a quarter of them men. The class
included aspiring Broadway hoofers,
middle-aged professionals, former
ballet students now in their late
20s and one fellow with tattoos down
his back. Other regulars include a
nurse, an emergency medical
technician, Ailey administrators, a
book editor and a retired
sailor...."

Tips
to Sharpen 3 Things |
We’re going to help you sharpen three things. Your memory,
your image, and yes, even a knife. We found these techniques
in Woman’s World magazine.
-
Let’s start with your memory.
One of the best ways to sharpen it is to improve your
sense of balance! Balance requires your brain to
create nerve cells that are also used for storing
information. That’s according to Dr. Michael Roizen who
wrote the book “You: The Owner’s Manual”. So
close your eyes and lift one foot a few inches off the
ground and hold it for three seconds or more. Doing it
with your eyes shut forces your brain to use your other
senses to keep you upright. And that triggers the
production of proteins that improve nerve function in
the brain. So try that every day on both legs. And it
won’t hurt to eat some dark chocolate afterward. It
increases blood supply to your brain, which maximizes
your memory.
