Where Are
All the Black Swans? |

Currently Ballet Theater has one black female dancer,
Misty Copeland, a member of the corps de ballet. Since the
departure of Aesha Ash in 2003, City Ballet has had none.
Last week Ms. Ash, a member of Alonzo King’s San Francisco
company Lines Ballet, returned to New York to perform at the
Joyce Theater in an engagement that ends on Sunday. (see
pictures of Aesha Ash - who is stunning gorgeous in person too - here) The first — and until recently, only — black woman
promoted to the rank of principal at a major American
company was Lauren Anderson of Houston Ballet, then directed
by Ben Stevenson. “It seems like what matters is if you have
a director or a choreographer who has the guts to do it,”
Ms. Anderson, who retired in 2006, said by phone from
Houston, where she is now an outreach associate in the
company’s education department. “But why should it take
guts? It’s art, it’s ballet, it’s dance and it’s for
everyone.”

Body: Don't pump gas on may 15th
Body: ...in April 1997, there was a
"gas out" conducted nationwide in
protest of gas prices. Gasoline
prices dropped 30 cents a gallon
overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all internet users
are to not go to a gas station in
protest of high gas prices. Gas is
now over $3.00 a gallon in most
places.

Love Lessons from the Animal World |

Are you ready for
some love lessons from the animal
world? Lions, baboons, and even
cuttlefish are better at courtship
than most humans. and guess what –
in most circumstances, it’s the
female who makes all the decisions.
It’s like one big Sadie Hawkins
dance in the wild kingdom – and
guys, we can learn a thing or two
from our animal friends. Here are
the facts from Dr. Dan Wharton,
director of the Central Park Zoo:
- Animal Love Lesson
from the lions. Before a
male lion can approach a
lioness, he must first get the
go ahead, which is usually a
swat on the jaw with her paw. If
a male lion approaches a female
without the go ahead,
she’ll bolt. So what can a man
learn from a lion? Read a
woman’s cues. If a woman glances
at you across a crowded room, it
could simply be that she’s
bored. So how can you know for
sure whether it’s a signal to
approach? Walk to the juke box
or the bathroom and ask your
buddy to keep an eye out. If the
woman looks up when you pass, or
leans in to whisper to a friend,
she’s probably interested.
- And what can a man learn
from a cuttlefish about
courtship? When a male
cuttlefish spies a female he
likes, he’ll swim toward her
solo and flash his skin
patterns. The lesson? Break away
from the pack. Women will never
go for a guy surrounded by his
buddies. So make sure you break
from the pack by going to the
pool table or patio solo. And
stand out fashion-wise. If all
your buddies are in jeans and
t-shirts, slip a blazer over
your t-shirt. Trust me, a woman
will notice.
