Health Numbers to Help You Live Longer
Do you know someone that needs to lose weight or get in better physical condition?  Perhaps a belated or extra mother's/father's day gift or birthday idea.  Dancing can help people with all the suggestions below....I feel it's more fun than just going to the gym.

I’ve got some more magic health numbers to share. Commit these to memory and you’ll live longer, guaranteed. These come from Dr. Elizabeth Bower, a professor of medicine at Oregon Health and Science University.

  • The first health number is 5: That’s the minimum number of years you should maintain a steady, healthy weight. That means no yo-yo dieting. Get down to a healthy weight and then do your best to maintain it. Because the more consistent your weight is, the stronger your immune system is. Weight fluctuations impair the body’s ability to produce infection fighting cells.
  • The next magic health number: 48. That’s the maximum number of hours you should let go by between workouts. Researchers at the University of Missouri found that when people are inactive for longer than 2 days, the calories normally burned during exercise start to be absorbed as fat. In fact, fat cells in lab rats can increase in size by 25% after 48 hours without a workout. So don’t be a lazy lab rat.
  • Another magic health number: 50. That’s the number of pounds of pressure you should be able to squeeze with one hand.That’s a key indicator of your overall muscle strength and a sign of how likely you are to develop osteoporosis. People with a strong grip have denser bones and a lower risk for fractures. To measure your grip, squeeze a device called a hand dynamometer. A lot of bigger gyms have them.
  • Your final magic health number is: 75. That’s the approximate number of times per minute your heart should beat at rest. Extremely fit people, like athletes, could have a lower rate – but anything lower than 60 beats per minute can indicate an irregular heartbeat or a thyroid disorder – especially if it’s accompanied by dizziness. A rate of 100 is a sign of poor fitness. To find your beats per minute, take your pulse while you’re resting and count the beats in 10 seconds – then multiply by six. If the number around 75, you’re okay.
