Executive Charisma: Six Steps to
Mastering the Art of Leadership
by Debra Benton.
- Perfect your
posture. Stand up
straight and take long, deep
breaths. This isn’t just about
looking better. Good posture
helps you feel energized, alert
and in control.
[Erik
suggests dancing and encouraging
the people for whom you care to
dance too.]
- Slow down.
If you move and speak too
quickly, you’ll come across as
nervous and that gives off the
vibe that you AREN’T in control.
- Shoot straight.
No one can like you unless they
can trust you. So tell the truth
and never try to dodge a
mistake.
- Be a good
storyteller. People
find you smarter and more
interesting if you use anecdotes
to make your points. To be more
comfortable as a storyteller,
ham it up at bedtime when you
read to your kids, or practice
with somebody else’s kids.
- Don’t argue.
If you disagree with someone,
don’t get defensive. Instead,
ask a question like, “What are
the facts behind your opinion?”
Then once you hear them, respond
accordingly. Staying calm helps
you think more clearly and makes
other people take you more
serious
