I have various

occasions. Some of my shoes
look like regular street shoes,
while other look like ballroom
shoes. The pair that I wear
most frequently are Dance Sneakers

New York's Downtown Dance Festival
Begins Monday |
Late summer
means it's
time for
more free
dance
festivals.
This week,
it's the
Downtown
Dance
Festival,
presented by
the Battery
Dance
Company. The
festival, an
especially
good bet for
those of you
working in
the Wall
Street area,
will present
performances
by 19
companies
Monday
through Aug.
26.
Weekday
performances
are from
noon to 1:30
p.m. at
Chase Plaza,
Nassau
Street
(between
Liberty and
Pine).
Weekend
performances
are from 1
to 4 p.m. on
the Battery
Park lawn,
which is
adjacent to
the corner
of State and
Pearl
streets.
This
year's
festival
will feature
modern,
African,
Indian and
martial arts
performers,
including
the Quorum
Ballet from
Lisbon,
Portugal
(Thursday
and
Saturday),
and Darshana
Jhaveri from
India (Aug.
26).
Each
day's
performances
will include
a bit of
audience
participation
in which the
professionals
invite kids
and young
adults
onstage to
learn a
movement
phrase.
